Betty Lou Grinstead Rice

Betty Lou Grinstead Rice of Sullivan, Indiana, formerly of Marion, Illinois, passed away Sunday, March 25, 2018.  She was born January 6, 1929, in Canton, Ohio, the second of six children to the late Thomas and Ada “Wink” Grinstead.   Betty loved her hometown of New Haven, situated in the beautiful hills of West Virginia.  She was a 1946 graduate of Wahama High School, and was one of the last remaining members of her class.  In 1950, she married Clyde D. Rice, who preceded her in death in 1991.   Along with her mom and sisters, Betty was an excellent seamstress.  She was a huge fan of the St. Louis Cardinals and Tiger Woods, and she loved performer Wayne Newton.  Betty is survived by a daughter, Jackie Robinson, Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, a son, JC Rice and his wife Ann, Jerseyville, Illinois, grandchildren Sarah Robinson, Myrtle Beach, Ellie Winder, her husband Eric and their daughter Emma Jane, and Jack (JT) Rice, all of Jerseyville, a sister, Shelby Duncan and her husband, Cecil, New Haven, West Virginia, and several nieces and nephews and cousins.   In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a son, James W. “Jim” Rice who passed away May 12, 2017, son in law, Robin R. Robinson, a sister, and three brothers.   Graveside funeral services will be held at Graham Cemetery, New Haven, on Thursday, March 29, at 11 am.
